These cush drive rubbers are used in the rear wheel and dampen the shock of acceleration and deceleration which means your ride is much more comfortable and enjoyable. If they become worn or damaged then they should be replaced in order to prevent the rear sprocket carrier moving unwantedly. Nobody wants a wobbly carrier.
